Greg is referring to Ed S, not me. (I'm here to get some motivation
for learning some new stuff. I'm in kind of a rut lately, the last
three years specifically.)

Ed, the best motivation for learning new stuff is HAVING to do it.
The best to have to learn new stuff is... ta-da... play in or start
up a band with a goal of playing out in the coming months, whether
that be a backyard BBQ or a paying gig. There is no substitute for
learning new tunes faster than having 3 or 4 other folks depending on
you. And these folks need not be pros; just like-minded folks who
feel the same way about music... it's best when shared.

Greg

Greg, your best motivation for learning by having to do it would
be my worst possible motivation. If I HAVE to learn it, then it
becomes work and it's no longer any fun. I bought my first guitar
in 1958 because it looked like fun, and some of the other guys
in the dorm taught me some of the essentials. It WAS fun, even if
it was a cheap one made mostly from particle board. Currently own
five acoustics, and what I like to do the most is play alongside
the stereo set. I probably reached my peak some years ago. Old
age can be a bitch with speed, dexterity, and finger joints. :-)

Thanks for your comments, though. I appreciate it.
