Bingo. When I played in bands, I put the finger picks down and played what
I needed to play to be part of the group. Problem was, I really missed
doing it all myself so I quit the band thing. Don't think I'd ever go back
except as a bass player, where I wouldn't be tempted to overplay.
If I could play solo well, I'd only do that. That way, you are your
only bottleneck for scheduling gigs, dealing with family, etc. Alas, I
am a realist and know that to make music I either need backing tracks
or other people. I do have about 25 minutes of solo mat'l, but it
takes me too long to work that stuff up.
