Fooling with the guitar this morning and finally got it sounding decent. Now not sure if it was a problem with winding the strings which was allowing slippage, a combination of that and new strings stretching, but anyway I have never had this kind of trouble re-stringing before.
When I first got my Strat, *it* had this problem, and it was
like my fifth guitar and I'd been playing for a long time.
Turned out Strats have a special tuning peg that you push
the cut end of the string into, and that keeps it from
"pinging".
I also discovered this:

I'm now thinking of locking tuners for my Artcore AG75.
That won't help with slippage or that much with stretch. Locking
tuners are usually associated with whammy bars.
The tuners on the pics of Artcores I can find *look*
like Grovers ( or a knockoff of Grovers ). Those
are good tuners.
Anyone know of a direct replacement w/o having to re-drill for the screws?
