But how about a Bar B Q out at someone's home. The band should know that there is no performance license held by the venue. I suspect that few bands make any attempt to deal with this eventuality though I think booking agencies do.
I'm going to a Christmas party where we'll all hack away at some copyrighted carols. I'm looking forward to the buffet. Do we send a piece of pie to ASCAP? Don't want to spend Christmas in jail.
