How do you strum chords where you'd not supposed to play one of the middle
strings?
Take Em7 as an example where the D string hadn't supposed to be played. I
hope I'm reading the chord diagrams properly
What is the chord diagram? Jazz chords commonly have this scenario -
like a jazz G7 is 3-x-3-4-3-x - you have to hold the chord in such a
way as to must the 5th and 1st strings - prett y easy once you get used
to it.
If you have a chord diagram of an Em7 where the 4th string is not
fretted then it sounds like the jazz m7 voicing in the A shape - is it
x-7-x-7-8-7? It's like switiching from a D as x-x-0-2-3-2 to a Bm7 as
x-2-x-2-3-2.
Same thing - hold the chord to mute the 4th string and strum all 5
strings. That particular Em7 at x-7-x-7-8-7 would be fingered
x-index-x-middle-pinky-ring. And you just strum all 5 strings. The one
problem ou may run into when musting strings but still hitting them in
the strum is when you mute it on a harmonic node and you get a harmonic
note in the chord - you have to make an adjustment.
hope this helps.
