The bronze strings have a steel core, so they will still work; just not
as well as electric guitar strings.
Interesting - how about the other way?
ie I buy some ernie ball slinkie 9's (like I did yesterday)
but put them on my acoustic instead of the LP.
or is that classed as a criminal act?
So long as the acoustic guitar is intended for steel strings, it would
be fine...but you would not likely like the tone of electric strings on
an acoustic...it may be a little bit bright and brittle...not the same
zing and boom as a nice new set of phosphour bronze. Nevertheless, so
long as you respect the appropriate gauge (don't put bass strings on
that 1956 Martin), it doesn't much matter to the guitar, but the
winding does impart some of the tone (acoustically anyway...I doubt a
piezo can tell the difference), so that's why they have different types
and windings.
P.S. Depending on where you live on the planet, everything, at one time
or another, has been or is currently classed as a "criminal act". Kinda
takes the bite out of the fear...or puts it in, depending on how you
feel about the sheep ;-)
