And the better each, individual musician is, the
easier it is. If some players come to the rehearsal
and still have the need to "practice" or learn how
to play some chords then the others are forced to
come down to that level.
If instead, everyone knows how to play their parts
already and all that's needed is a tweak here and
there to formulate an ending or segue, then the
tedious "practicing" part of it goes away.
I've seen bands advertise that they want to practice
three times a week for 6 months before taking their
act to the stage. With that much practice, I could
learn a whole new instrument and sing in Japanese.
