When you're done with those, which will probably take two weeks or so,
you'll know the notes on both the E string and the A string. From there,
you'll probably realize that you also know the notes of the 1st string,
as it's the same notes as the 6th string.
The thing I never liked about this approach is that there
too much memorization effort required. These kind of
exercises have my eyeballs rolling up and me falling
asleep with my guitar in hand (I know this from
experience) ;-)
That's why I think learning classical playing from the
standard notation is good at teaching you the notes.
That learning just comes automatically, as part of
learning your songs. It keeps me from falling asleep
at least.
I'll admit however, that the classical approach may not
be as successful with people that are also learning the
treble clef for their first time.

I don't understand where you're coming from, then. Too much memorization?
All I'm condoning is memorizing a simple fingering pattern, and a simple
note pattern: A, B, C, F, G, D, E. It's got a little "tune" that you can
hear, which doesn't have to be practiced all *that* much. 5 minutes per day
would do it. If you fall asleep in 5 minutes, I suggest that you have a
sleep disorder.
I don't picture someone just learning to read music learning classical
pieces. I also don't see how "that learning just comes automatically". If
one is working on learning the notes on the fretboard, how do they learn a
classical piece from standard notation?

Find your voice, and speak it loudly and clearly.
Everything else is really bullshit in the end.
