That's true. One other thing that standard notation helps with is
seeing the harmonies in a piece. Tablature just shows finger
positions. When you look at a piece in standard notation, it's easier
to see harmonic progressions, countermelodies, etc. That helps me get
a better feel for how to interpret the piece. It is handy when they
give you both tabs and standard notation, especially if a piece is in
an alternate tuning.
