so i used to go to this "open mike" type afterenoon jam, (sometimes
we'd be the "backup band" - we got paid at least) - and everyone was
invited to sit in - just some bluz if nothing else - and we'd get some
pretty hot players - sax, harmonica, singers, even trumpets and
stuff...and "guitar players" - like TEN of em would show up - and,
well, OFTEN we'd do like five verses and say, OK, thanks for stoppin by
- we gotsa players folks, so we'll be switching around now - cuz, well,
they would show up will a dozen groupies and three guitars - at least
one of which looked like frankenstein or similiar - and prove that if
you didn't know what you were doing, you could always turn up. the
volume and if your axe wasn't in tune, it was the keyboard players
job to tune up to THEM, and that if you could pick real fast that you
could play faster than anyone could hear the out-of-tune notes (like
running between the raindrops?) .

i think i was in on that like 3 times and finally just started telling
them i had some new reader's digest stories to read that day - but have
fun guys -

The club owner seemed to think it was cool, but i couldn't take it any
longer. perhaps i am getting weaker in my old age.

Most of these guys just need a place to play and let it all out... Blues
jams are not a serious thing. I look at it as time for the inexperienced to
get their collective ya ya's out (and, maybe even a few local celebs), but I
know what you mean by how annoying it can be... But, for them, they are
stars, if just for a moment. Can't really take that feeling way from
someone. I see their faces and sometimes wish I wasn't so jaded...
