I forgot to add that I've read a lot of good things about the Epiphone
Valve Jr. I havn't tried one yet, but it sounds like it might be just
what you're looking for. Check out the reviews on the newsgroups, and
Harmony Central.
You might give it a try at the local music store. It's 5 watt, so it's
not too loud, and ~ $135 for the amp w/speaker, ~ $100 for just the
head.
Just something to look at while you're trying amps...
I love the Epi VJ, but it has only 1 tone you can get out of it. Of
course the guitar you play will affect it, but the amp itself only has
a volume knob on it. That's all, no other controls.
You can get it clean, crunchy, and crank it into metal zone, and it is
a very tight, punchy, full tone, but you better like that sound, cuz'
it's the only one you're gonna' get out of that amp. I have no idea
what a modelling gizmo will sound like through it.
It's loud enough to practice by yourself, and a great low volume way of
recording a "heavy" sound, but it is not loud enough to practice with a
drummer, even if you plug it into a big cabinet.
My opinion,
Peace,
Rico
