Thanks you very much for your answers. I will buy a few more picks withThe trick is when you are strumming down most people angle the pick, so the
different thickness and practice until I get it.

Hi,
I am not able to do the double strum with a pick. The downstrum is
easy but I am not able to do the upstrum correctly. I have seen somebody
using the back of his index nail for the downstrum and the back of his
thumb
nail for the upstrum. Can this way of strumming replace using a pick?
Thanks,
Richard
tip is up, and it slides across the strings without catching on them. When
you strum up you have to loosen your wrist, and the pick, so that it is now
pointing down, and slides across the strings just like when you were
strumming down. With a vice grip on the pick and a stiff wrist, the pick
will be angled up and catch on the strings. Just shake out your wrist
without a pick and you can see your wrist follow behind your arm. If you
can do this when playing the pick will naturally change position.
That said, learning to play without a pick is just fine, and many players
don't use picks at all. I would practice both ways.
