Is there any problem with retuning an acoustic guitar to alternate tunings
and back to standard tuning frequently? Any perceived negative affect on the
guitar or strings?
My guitar teacher said the nut on my electric guitar is binding the strings
when tuning. He said I should put 3 in 1 oil on the nut in the string
grooves. Is 3 in 1 oil ok for that purpose? I'm a little hesitant to do what
he suggests. Any suggestions or comments?
I have the following problem (maybe this is normal?) on both electric
guitars I own, an SG and a Les Paul. I tune them using either a tuner or
string to string tuning (whatever that's called). The results are the same.
If I fret a note on the lower frets, 1 or 2 for sure, and press the string
with my normal pressure the note will be sharp. This is more noticeable
playing cords, probably because of open string reference tones. If I lighten
up on the pressure I can get the correct pitch. This doesn't seem to hold
true higher on the neck of the electrics or for my acoustic guitars at any
fret (I do use heavier strings on the acoustics). Is this normal? It
introduces a variable I could do without. I can deal with it if I have too
but if something's just not right I'd prefer to fix it.
