not alot to go wrong in a strat anyways.. its just some caps and coils and

they are sensitive to lightning strikes.

In fact you dont have to worry about analog devices such as monitors or
mixers when it comes to surges because they really dont care, but IC's hate
that stuff and anything that is too much will cause it to burn.

Anything connected to an online PC, is vulnerable, whether you
have a modem plugged into the phone jack, or cable inet or
DSL. The problem is that lightning can hit any/all of those
cables and travel throughout your whole system of devices,
analog/digital and even tube stuff can have parts zapped.

The surge protectors only "help" on the power side. The only
simple thing you can do that might otherwise help, is to put some
knots in the phone/DSL cord, so that the inductance it
produces will impede the incoming lightning. It might
reduce the scope of the damage. Lightning is hard to stop.

That is why I like to do a backup to a USB hard drive. You
unplug the drive after backup and store it on a shelf,
free from any lightning attacks. Now with 300+ GB drives,
it is the only cheap/fast way to do backups.
