Here's my problem, one of the anyway.

I'm left handed, but golf, play ball, hockey all right handed. A few
years back I wanted to take up guitar and bought one, right handed. It
felt, for the most part, natural holding it right handed and with all
the other right handed playing I was confident that was the way to go.

I took lessons, but could only get so far, then the left and right
brain thing seem to kick in. I couldn't get my right hand to strum /
pick anything other than one pattern, everything sounded the same. I'm
not one to get discouraged and was prepared to work it out..but kids
came along and I found myself having less and less time with the
guitar, until it was not in use at all.

Kids are older now and it's not as cool to hang with me anymore, so I
have a bit of free time. Still wanting to play the guitar, I bought
another one this week. However, this time a left handed one. I'm
hopeful that strumming left hand will more successful. Does that sound
reasonable, anyone have a similar experience with the left VS right
handedness?

The left handed guitar player who plays right handed is taking a hit for
no reason at all. Whether it is worth it to start all over only you can
say. The instrument and ones like it have been played right handed by
right handed people forever, by many millions of people. There is *no*
culture different in that respect. To argue that a left handed player
should play right handed is insane, but some people do it. daveA

I'm left handed and started to learn left handed because right handed
felt
crap. After learning to play a few chords and a few tunes with some
other
guys, one day a new guy turned up with a great guitar. His guitar
sounded
great, everyone had a play on it except me. What a bummer that was not
being able to have a play on it. When I went home I took all my strings
off and turn them the other way round and started to learn the right
handed way. That was the best decision that I ever made. Now I can pick
anybodies guitar up and play it.

Not mine. Bad trade.

To argue that a left handed player should play left handed is insane.

Should a right handed player play left handed then? You have zero
going for you in making an argument out of that.

It
has nothing to do with whether it feels natural or not. Once you have
learnt to play it, it becomes to feel 100 percent the natural way.

This is the archaic argument for forcing left handed children to write right
handed. It's absolute nonsense imho. If people feel mroe comfortable with a
left handed guitar, then let them play it.
