Yeah, I had one of those recently but it wasn't over anything big. I
was laying in bed thinking how I was hungry but had nothing to eat and
I realized that I have no idea what that truely means. I have
absolutely no conception of true need as it has never entered my life.
Sure, I go through short periods when I *think* I am struggling but
that is just because all the other times I have basically every
material thing I need or want.

Then I thought about the community and the country and it came to me
that nobody in this country knows what true need, suffering, or
despiration really is (on an average basis...currently New Orleans is
probably an exception to this rule). Yes, there are poor people. Yes,
there are people in need of many things...but in comparison to many
other places on the planet we just have no conception of what they go
through. Here we have people out of work that survive...other places
we have people that work their asses off 24x7 that barely survive; that
can't feed their children or give them an education. There are places
where the suffering in New Orleans is not only an every day occurance,
but such times might even be considered an improvement over their every
day lives.

It is only by birth that I have a good life and someone else has a bad
one, and the difference between the two is staggering. One instructor
I had in college made the point that there is plenty of food and other
needs for every person on this planet...but what there is a major
shortage of in some places is money...but what do you think I'll be
doing with my next paycheck?

You know, I recently borrowed a bunch of money so I could buy a nice
little laptop that I had modified to my tastes... It's a fast little
machine that does everything I want it to. But I still need a decent
pro-quality USB or firewire soundcard...
