I don't understand having a Wal and not playing it on gigs?
Ok, I accept the risk involved going to strange places but
(and I don't rule it out) should I get my mitts on a Wal it
will, like my current Warwick Thumb, be the weapon of choice
when firing bass at unsuspecting members of the public.
Think of it this way. Yo Yo Ma has the following cellos: Davydov 1712
Stradivarius, Domenico Montagnana 1733, Luis and Clark
Which do you think he plays for bar gigs or outdoor gigs?
My Wal fretless is far and away the best fretless istrument I have, so
if I want/need to play fretless I'll take that regardless of the
situation. However, although the 5 string fretted Wal is a better
instrument than the OLP, it's not so much better to outweigh the risks
in a lot of situations (inclement weather, dancers with power tools,
period when gear left unattended, possibility of someone I don't know
wanting/needing to sit in for a set etc.), so the OLP gets to play out
more.
Oh, and it has glowy orange strings, which are cool, but I don't think
I'd feel right putting glowy orange strings on the Wals.
