Sure it is. If they didn't want to pay cash, they would have a cheque
there. After it was endorsed...THEN they would pay me in cash. No
cash, NO GIG. In all honesty, I never lost ONE Gig because of it.
We played Bank Christmas Parties and had no problem this way.
If they WANT the Band...They'll PAY for the Band, Period.
My Sidemen never had to wait to get paid. THATS...how I kept them. :)
You never lost one gig? How about two? :-)
I don't have issues with checks from corporate clients. I fully
understand why they wouldn't want somebody carrying around $2,000 in
cash. I never had a corporate check bounce.

Except for a questionable (private) employer, I never had an issue
with accepting a check for a gig. There's generally a contract in
place, down payment received, and I have recourse if needed (never
been needed). Especially if it's a corporate gig (or municipal, or
school system, or any bureaucratic institution) - it's just the way
they do things, and I want to make hiring me as easy as possible for
all involved. I also never had a problem paying my people in check
form - they know I don't write bad checks. All this being said, cash
is always preferable, but not insisted upon. By the way, I also have
no issue accepting a check when I'm a side man, which I usually am. (I
yam what I yam.)
