"Kids" is not just one age group. A seven year old is a completely
different animal than a fourteen year old.
No telling, but as for "sticking to something", I'd expect an older
child might be more self-driven (including that paper route or
whatever).

If you'd like to share, perhaps you have some comments to offer on
what happened along the way to having four adult players-- how much
support or push you provided, especially related to practicing?

I'm guess I'm asking relative to "how much do you spend" at the
beginning.

Whatever is spent, the starter instrument needs to work correctly, be
easy to play, and make sounds that encourage progress.
If that includes a setup that compares to the price of the instrument,
so be it, IMHO. Because there's such a gap between starting out and
playing like the records, it's easy to get discouraged.
