Right, but we've changed from my nine- and ten-year-olds to you - very different audience. For kids just starting, and for parents on a budget, there is absolutely a place for an instrument that comes setup "good enough" from the factory. Surely you aren't suggesting that a parent spend $90, or even $50, for a setup on the Rondo bass starter kits I ordered that cost $119 plus shipping for a bass _and_ an amp, are you?
If you have a reasonable expectation that the kids will stick with playing, by all means yes!
If you don't, then perhaps you should encourage them to pursue a different activity.
