Rather than to chop up a collectable bass I would sell it and buy a
Jazz.
Wouldn't worry too much about the collectible value
of a Squier ? ! ? EMG Select are a passive PU that
can offer the tone described. Very affordable, too.
Bartolinis seem to be chameleons. Got a bunch of
Bart P's in play, and the basses are voiced all over
the place ... gnarly to moh-derne ! Yet I do have a
fondness for them. I think they bring out the nature
of each ax rather than imposing a voice.
