Our otherwise wonderful singer swears he sufficiently varies his distance
from his mic, as any good singer should. He doesn't. Distance varies from
one inch to "eat". He's completely oblivious, but my spies in the audience
say his voice often hits unpleasant peaks. We've beat him up about it
endlessly. Before we try the device at the link below, we thought maybe
we'll tie him to a chair, pin his eyes open a la Clockwork Orange, and make
him watch some videos of singers doing the right thing. I'll be searching
for some, but if you happen to know of any, please share. More is gooder.

just compress the crap out of it. i have a voice that goes really
loud when i sing high so i know the feeling.
as far as the distance issue, i'm with the singer on this one. get
too far away and your voice sounds empty and hollow. get up on it and
it sounds nice and full.
so buy a compressor and slam his voice with it, and everything's
archie.
Be careful to hook it up so that the compressor is not in the monitor feed.
That just opens up a whole can of worms with feedback.
