Just found the issue, Steve...there is a tiny setting down the bottom
that reads "chromatic", guitar etc...When it is on chromatic, the
pitch doesn't match - switch it to guitar and it does (checked on line
against proven A=440Hz source). One problem solved, yet another
mystery created (at least for me, anyway..)
When you say the pitch doesn't match what do you mean? It says the
wrong note name? Or it is telling you the note is slightly sharp or
flat?
If the former, sometimes cheap tuners just don't work very well.
If the latter, even a cheap tuner should read the same.
What tuner is it?
I bought the tuner from an Aldi store, it is one of their brands
(Livingstone, I think) - it is all fixed now. There is a button that
allows you to switch from chromatuc to guitar - once I did this, the
tuner was matching the pitch - that is, playing an A on an electric
piano (which had been checked for tuning) showed up as an A on the
tuner @440Hz...But why does it behave differently when in chromatic
mode??
