It's a joke, son, dontcha get it? I have said from Day One that if you want to be a working pro, you need to learn to sight-read music.
Then again, there's a germ of truth to what I said. There are countless bass players out there who could play that piece if they had a chance to hear it first. If the piece is made up of mostly quarter and eighth notes without a lot of funky stuff, then I bet a bunch of players could look at the tab and wing it the first time through without much trouble.
And, was we have discussed here many times, there are plenty of musicians willing to work for little or nothing. You should be grateful that more of them don't learn to sight read and that music directors would rather spend the church's money than spend 20 minutes "dumbing down" the music for bassists.
