You both can justify however you want - much as an alcoholic justifies his
continued drinking.
I'm merely laying out the facts. Take them as you will.

So I get a call from a church worship leader today looking for someone tobass
play one song on Sunday - a jazz walking bass version of a hymn. Decent
bread for one song.
I can't do it as I already have a gig, so he asks me for names of other
players who could do it.can
I ask what's involved. It's all written out, he says. No chord charts. No
tab.
I'm racking my brains trying to think of which bass players in this town
actually sight read that aren't already working. I give him the names oftwo
guys I don't really know and send him off to find their phone numbers.
The SAD thing is, I couldn't hook up the 5 OTHER guys I DO know and owe
favors to - because they CAN'T read.
