I disagree, that's physically impossible, and that's the other thing that I said to John. You may not notice it, and you may not realize it, but you are definitely providing a counterforce to fingering pressure.
Wow, Brian, you're not reading very carefully. He said "no *additional* pressure." He never said he wasn't applying a counterforce. Of course, if the thumb is touching the neck, there is *some* pressure there, but it may be very small. It is in my case. I don't notice it, but I'm sure I apply a tiny bit of extra force with my arm when I remove my thumb, but the point still stands.
