I've done a fair amount of removing viruses by hand. Your best bet
is, of course, to get an AV program to remove it, and your best
chance of that is getting an AV program running after you've started
in Safe Mode, and/or getting an AV program set to run on startup and
then rebooting your machine and letting the AV program do its thing.
All this assuming Windows XP or similar - is that what you're
running?

Here, we use AVG's free edition and it has worked very well for us on
all our computers. Since it's free, if you haven't tried it, you
could download and install it, and see if it'll fix this for you.

*If* it's a virus. Those types of randomsringofcharactors.dll files
are usually from spyware (why is there a difference?) which virus
removal software don't seem to remove.

Yup, it is worth a try. BTW, a Google of the file name does find at
least one other person asking the same question, so I doubt it's a
completely random file name.
