Yours are going to be better, can't argue with what you
like.
I think it's more like, "I can't make comparisons with
something that I don't have any idea about." You have no
idea whatsoever about how I'm going to build these cabs, but
all along you've been more than willing to tell me that I
don't stand a chance of making something good. Damned if I
can figure you out.
Tell you what, though -- knowing that you would consider
making speaker cabs out of 1/2" plywood and using
Owens-Corning 703 panels inside, then I can guarantee you
that I'll build something better.
Perhaps you may build something better but doubtful it will
sound any better IMHO. The most important issue in your design
process is Closed or Ported and what Q or alignment. How do
you know what to pick before you build?
A box of the dimensions this cabinet will have will not have
so much area between cleats, handles, input jack panel and
braces that thicker than half inch sides would not buy to
much. in the way of sound quality IMHO.
I have made subs and mids with constrained layer box's and
have a nice little accelerometer to convert cabinet vibrations
to input to my FFT analyzer. I do not believe that the output
of the box in this kind of situation is going to be much
compared to the output of the drivers crossed over around 200
hz.
For PA applications.....I like the lightest speaker systems
possible. It takes resonance to make the box sing and keeping
dimensions closest to the golden ratio and bracing any areas
that may present a positive node above 200hz should be a
reasonable trade off.
703 panels wont fall off or shed and they are almost 100 %
absorptive above 100Hz. Your biggest out of phase wave will
come off the back of the cabinet. I can see the bounce with my
FFT analyzer at precisely the frequency that corresponds with
the time it takes to move the distance from the rear of the
cone, bounce off the back panel, then travel back through the
cone and hit the mic. I see this all the time. It is big
compared to the box resonance. I am still not sure it can be
heard though.
I think you will like whatever it is you build. There is so
much room for error in the audio chain that your project will
be used that it really does not matter. After all is said and
done that berhinger CO will just be a huge equalizer and some
mixer will beat everything into an entertaining roar.
The PA I want to build would be a line array, like the Martin
Milo. Right now I use a pair of 15" JBL 1" cabs and all the
barkeeps tall us we are to loud.
My stereo is Aura 1808 subs in huge extended bass shelf
alignment, Focal 10" Kevlar midbass in a closed box, Accuton
5" and 1" ceramics. My room is acoustically not to bad. This
is the goal I shoot for in sound. It is a very high bar.
Peace
dawg
