As some of you know I was married last Weds.
My wife is a very good singer and she wants to sing in a band.
She sat in with bands and has done karaoke but never in her own band.
I have a band going now with a very good 23 yo female singer and we
are just getting started gigging.
Did one gig and have more set up.
My wife Nancy is a rocker.
Does Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Ethridge, Bonnie Tyler, Patty
Smyth etc very good.
WE worked hard to get the country band going and we are gigging and I
don't want to quit that band.
So my intention is to be in 2 bands at the same time.
I don't know if I can handle that.
I thought about having both girls in one band but I'm sure that will
not work.
Any ideas?
Do not mix a young band and a young marriage all into the same room.
There's enough drama in bands as is without "hey, my wife wants to
sing in a band." There's a Linda McCartney singing with Wings track
floating around somewhere for tutelage. Do not introduce husband
defending wife to the end + band drama into a functioning band.
Do start a new project--and it can even live in the basement a while
to see how it goes. With you two starting it, no one entering the
project will come in with any surprises that suddenly there's a hubby
wife vibe been added. You will need a certain breed of folks to join
the new project who genuinely like the two of you, not just a
collection of players.
And..if you're wanting to play out with this band, be sure your wife
actually is a really good singer according to someone other than
yourself before you invest too much effort into this. If it needs to
live in the basement, that's fine, but if she's not really good enough
to cut it and win over an audience, you'll save a lot of heartache for
all by keeping ambitions small. Plus, if it lives in teh basement, it
can take as much or as little time as you can give it.
Good luck!
