Not on this group so far. I wonder what I'll hear at work tomorrow.
Meanwhile, I was wondering what would happen to the Beatles catalogue,
which Michael owned. And I did like that one song he did with Paul, "Say,
Say, Say." I could have had more of that, though I'd forgotten about that
horrible "The Girl Is Mine" song until I started googling.
Anyway, his was a life that could have gone better, a lot of talent and
drive, all gone wrong.
Sony owns half the Beatles catalog and from what I heard on the news that
Michael had it in his will that he is leaving the half catalog that he still
owns to Paul McCartney, no confirmation on that though.
I dont recall that Jackson was ever convicted of pedophilia. I think
he was stupid about all that.
Agreed. On both counts. It'll be interesting to find out what comes
out as truth now that he's passed, but the guy was obviously
enormously troubled, had a totally bizarre upbringing, insane fame at
an extremely early age, and seemed to be wired in a way that would
make Peter Pan say "damn, dude, you need some help with your fixation
on childhood."
I'm guessing that it's entirely possibly that he was guilty only of
some extremely poor judgement and that the parents of the kid involved
were mining for $'s after being foolish enough to let their kid spend
that much time with him. I didn't follow that whole situation but I
recall when it was in the news that I walked away with that impression
that it was a parade of goofballs, and that MJ was never proven guilty
of anything except being a really weird dude.
Now that he's passed, I'm wondering if any non disclosure agreements
might be opened up and more might come out.
Musically, I'm not sure I ever much gave much thought to him. Bass
lines of that early Jackson 5 stuff, though, were pretty bitchin, and
he was quite a talented guy, but impact... for me, anyway.. not so
much.
Best Regards,
