Hey Gang,

If that's too spartan, try Media Player Classic.
I have a problem too. Has anyone seen this problem: I've got Windows
2000 and 2000 server. For some reason WMP has problems playing files.
All players do. they play OK except that there are "gaps" where the
audio or video pauses. Sure I'm not hyper speed but I have about 1Ghz
with a decent amount of RAM so that should not be a problem. It acts
as if you are downloading and your download is too slow. But that is
not the problem. The thing hiccups even off the hard drive. I've
reinstalled a couple of times but that is just a short-term fix. I
suspect some spyware is saving data to "phone home" but haven't been
able to find it. Or perhaps some software has installed itself ahead
of all other software as people always love to do these days. I can't
find the problem. The registry has 45 processes running at once and
thanks to damn Bill you haven't a clue what 95% of them are. Many
refuse to be removed. Anybody remember the good old days when I had a
130Mhz CPU with a miniscule amount of storage space and it played all
my CDs just fine? Yeah I thought not. Me either. Anybody have any
hints about what to do (other than pitch the whole damn thing in the
trash where it belongs)? I kind of suspect infections coming in over
the internet but can't find any of it. Suggestions?
Download the service packs for win2k onto a CD.
Wipe the box. Repartition. Reformat. Reinstall windows 2000 from
original media. Apply service packs before connecting to the
network. Plug in behind a hardware firewall and surf ONLY to
windowsupdate and get everything else up to date while that box is the
ONLY machine on your home network. Reinstall your AV program. Add
your other boxes back to the network. Enjoy.
Also, define "decent amount of RAM." If less than 512MB, it's
possibly debateable if you have some bloated Norton ca crap on the
machine. But I still have a venerable ole win2k workstation box
working just fine, but it's not (to my knowledge) ever seen the wrath
of any malware.
Best Regards,
