Are you a pushover, is the other guy pushy, or is it a combination thereof? You don't need a "case" to justify not joining his band. You are under no obligation to discuss the reasons why. You may feel obligated as a friend, but your friend has an even stronger obligation to leave it alone when you say you don't want to get into it.



Well, in his defense, I was somewhat wishy-washy when he put me on the spot and asked me to *clarify* why I thought it wasn't a good fit.
As I said earlier, I back-peddled and never came out and said
that I didn't care for the style of the music.




That still sounds pushy to me. I don't have to justify myself to my friends, nor they to me. ("clarify" = "justify", and that's a very aggressive attitude)
