Sounds like you have something against folks having souls. You
might want to Google it and see what turns up. You might just be
surprised. BTW, faith is anything but the easy way out.
There is no evidence for the existence of a soul. Wishful thinking
is not evidence. And faith *really* is easy. Faith means you get to
choose what you want to believe without any evidence to support it
and no way of having that belief falsified. It's like shutting your
eyes, putting your hands over your ears and going "la la la la la
la."
There is *much* evidence for the existance of a soul, some of it is
even physical, it just isn't conclusive, and most is circumstantial.
You want to shoot us a few examples?
There have been experiments that revealed a slight loss of weight at the
moment of death that had no physical explanation, leading to a theory that
the soul actually had physical existance. Out-of-body experiences argue for
the existance of something inside us that is separate from the physical
body. If you want more, just Google it, you'll find plenty.
Have you ever seen a quark or a lepton or a muon? Of course you
haven't, so why do you believe in them? Is it because some scientist
who is much smarter than you said they existed? Have you ever
actually seen any hard physical evidence for their existance, or did
you just take someone's word for it.? Here's the thing, you aren't
likely to ever see a quark or a lepton or a muon, but one day you'll
know for an absolute fact whether your soul exists or not, however,
you won't be able to come back and tell anyone about it...
I've seen direct evidence of leptons (which are actually a family of
particles) and muons. No one has seen direct evidence of quarks but
there's an overwhelming body of experimental data that is simply
explained by their existence.
I would agree that you've seen direct evidence of something, but how would
you know that it was evidence of leptons or muons? What happens if you get
to the bottom of quantum physics, and find that there is nothing there at
all? Perhaps that's the Creator's greatest joke, or perhaps we exist only
because we believe that we exist, that it's all just faith. Perhaps there
are other explanations that we are incapable of understanding so we just
accept these. What about string theory? Is that any more backed by physical
evidence that the soul?
The same cannot be said of souls.
Sure it can. I already did say it.
What's hard is accepting that you can be wrong about everything. For
example, I'm willing to accept that scientific proof of a soul could
be found. Those who have "faith" are entitled, nay, *encouraged* to
the ignore the utter lack of evidence.
What's so hard about accepting that *you* can be wrong about
*anything*? Ever consider that maybe some of us have solid evidence
that we do have a soul?
Such as?
Some folks have seen miracles, some have been the beneficiaries of
miricles. Some people cliam to be able to contact the dead, and have even
provided some evidence that they are in contact with something beyond life
as we know it.
My sister's first child was stillborn, and I knew it before she did, even
though I was 75 miles away at the time and had no contact with anyone at
home, can you explain that? I was at work, and suddenly, I knew that my
sister was giving birth and that the baby was dead, I had not been in
contact with any of my family for a couple of days, and the baby wasn't due
for a couple of weeks. That may not be evidence of the existance of the
soul, but it darn sure was evidnce for existance of something beyond the
normal five senses. I'm sure that you'll say I'm lying or I'm nuts or
something of that sort, but it's the truth and your denying it won't make it
any less the truth. There are things, many things, beyond what we can
explain, and anyone who denies something, just because he can't see, hear,
smell, touch or taste it, does not have a truly open mind.
Take a good look, and you'll see for yourself...Ever been dumped by a chick you were really into? Faith is believing
that she'll come back. Reality is drowning your sorrows in a beer.
Believing that she'll come back isn't faith, thinking that you can
drown your sorrows in a beer isn't reality.
Wait, you make the statement that it's impossible to separate the
Creation from the Creator, yet you deny the existance of the human
soul?!?
First, I don't "deny" the existence of the human soul. I say there
is no evidence for it. Second, I didn't use capital letters. Why did
you?
Because it made for a better reply. :-)
Why do you deny that there is any evidence for the existance of the
soul when it's all around you? Circumstantial evidence is still
evidence. If you're waiting for your soul to stick its head out of
your ass, wave at you and yell, "Hey Jim, I really do exist!", to
believe in it, then you aren't going to see it. However, if you open
your mind and take a really good look inside yourself, you just might
see a little circunstantial evidence.
Such as?
