in much of today's music than ever before. The ratio of non-talent
to talent is worse than ever, perhaps because the technology that
allows non-talent to sound like talent is available now. You could
make the argument that if that technology had been available back
then it would have been misused as much as it is now, and I
wouldn't disagree with you. As for my not knowing my ass from a
hole in the ground when it comes
to current music, you're wrong. Talent is talent and I know it
when I hear it. Some singer that has to be heavily autotuned to
even sound presentable ain't talent, and if you think it is then
you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground, period!

Since you can't even keep your own bullshit straight, I'll have to
keep it straight for you.
Just yesterday, you said
"Looks have always been a factor, but now looks are THE factor. You
have stars who have little to no talent making it big, just on
looks."

I think my statement makes it clear that I consider looks to be THE
factor for the no-talent people making it big, not for all artists
making it big.

Right. But you imply that the no-talents are the vast majority of
those who make it big and implying that the percentage who fit that
category is much larger than in the "good old days".

Not the vast majority, no. No talent singers aren't the only problem,
another is the no talent hack songwriters that are employed by the
major labels to turn out "hits" written to what ever formula is
popular this week. There many contributing factors to the sorry state
of pop music today. That said, there are still gems being released,
mostly by talented artists that also happen to be talented
songwriters. There's also the "million chimpanzees on typewriters"
factor as well, if enough hack songwriters are chruning out tunes,
once in a while a good song will come out just by random chance.
Pop music has always been in a pretty much sorry state, the good
stuff often misses the top forty charts, there's still lots of good
stuff out there, it's just that most of it doesn't come from the
major labels.

Remember too, the generational dictum.

You *must* discover music that pisses off your parents. Same as
always!

As I said before, my mom liked rock 'n' roll, the kitchen radio was
nearly always on a rock 'n' roll station when I was a kid. My dad
thought the Beatles were long haired slobs, but he liked a lot of
their music anyway.

Mom liked the Beatles but couldn't stand The Rolling Stones, Jimi
Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, etc.

My mom liked most rock,n,roll music, but whaile she never actually said she
didn't like hard rock, she said she just didn't understand most of it.
