I once had a bass (OK OK I admit it was an EBO!!!) that was absolutely
transformed by a change-out of the volume pot which was not obviously
scratchy or otherwise mal-functional. Didn't make it a good sounding
bass <g> but all joking aside, what had been dull and lifeless was
dull and lifeless no longer. Should have probably changed the tone
pot, too. --D-y

Doesn't one bypass the volume pot when the volume is turned all the way
up? Couldn't one test that way?

I _think_ that not all volume pots work this way - I'd appreciate an
explanation/overview of this if one is in order.
