You got a better explanation of why I was into classical and blues etc. when most of my friends really were listening to The Archies?

Unless you can link to an authoritive study showing there is a gene that determines what sort of music we like I'm going to continue to believe that parents with wide-ranging tastes was to my advantage.

This is a really hot-button issue for you, isn't it? Someone else can find the authoritative studies -- I think I know what you want to hear, so here you go: "You were really, really special. Your tastes were very advanced, you were head and shoulders above your grade-school classmates." Now, that was better than any danged ol' authoritative study, wasn't it?

But you're missing my point. I heard a lot of grown-up music at home, too. I liked it all, too. But I was the only one in the house that liked the Ohio Express at the time, my folks weren't playing that stuff. Over the years, I learned to appreciate all kinds of other music, but when you're a kid, there's stuff that appeals to you because you're a kid. The point being, today's kids are no different, they grow out of their kiddie stuff and into different things. The thread is about today's young people, and how they discover grown-up music, right?

I assume that eventually, you grew up some more and abandoned the Allman Brothers, Cream and Coltrane, and got into truly good music. I sure hope so. The Allman Brothers? Oy!
