Huh?

Typically means more likely than not. Generally speaking, when people don't include a word like "typically" they still don't mean "absolutely all" unless they explicitly say so.

But, your responses implied that the exceptions were not possible. Choose your words carefully, or go hang out in a guitar newsgroup.

Right, Joe. I am a psychic with 100% accuracy in predicting the future. I speak only in absolutes. Everything I state is fact and not to be questioned. That's why I always tell people that I'm an expert and that if they had my experience, they would understand.

Oh, wait. I don't do that. Nevermind.

Go back and look at what I wrote with a fresh eye. I used plenty of terms like "typically", "not all", "some", and "to me" and didn't explicitly state any absolutes.

But to show my humility, I will now clarify all of my points in non-absolute terms.

It could very well be that Pt at age 50+ had the most outstanding singer with no baggage and a supportive but unobtrusive mother stumble into his life while living in the boonies.

There could be perfectly valid reasons why the girl didn't mention her age up front.

Maybe her mother unexpectedly taking over negotiations is not an indicator of things to come.

Maybe the home-schooling mother who took over her daughter's education offering to help is not an indicator that she's going try to play an overly active role in the band.

Maybe the band really does need the mother's offer of help, and it will work out great.

Maybe there's a good reason why none of the bands she performed with offered her a gig or referred her to another band.

Maybe there's a good reason her vocal coach hasn't helped her land a gig.

Maybe there's a good reason she doesn't hit open mics.

Maybe there's a good reason she's not interested in a local band.

Maybe they are not religious, which is why she doesn't avail herself of the musical opportunities presented by churches.

Maybe her area doesn't have any choirs she could join.

Maybe there's a good reason the mother is leading her towards a band that is still in the forming stages rather than a proven band.

Maybe there's nothing else right for her in the 11,309 square miles in the 60 mile radius from her house.

Maybe there's no point in further investigating any of the above maybes.

Maybe the mother singing along with the daughter during an audition doesn't imply a comfort level that could interfere with the band dynamic.

Maybe the teenage daughter being okay with the mother taking part in an audition shows a certain maturity rather than an unusual level of closeness and/or lack of independence that is sometimes seen in home schooled children who don't deal with the normal social dynamics of the teen years.

Maybe the bassist really did have a flat tire, and it's *not* an indicator of a lack of commitment to a newly forming band.

Maybe the drummer showing up extremely late shows dedication rather than indifference.

Maybe the worst that will happen is that a few weeks get wasted without any real drama.

Maybe the band members won't get discouraged at this setback and will be happy to start over with another singer.

Happy now?
