There is a list of things I fear, we all have such a list I'd bet. On
this list, things like running over one of my kids in the driveway,
etc. Also on my personal list - hand injuries.
<<Snip>>

Anyway, sorry for whining and feeling sorry for myself. Just had to
tell this tale of woe.

Ya'll got any good hand injury stories (please include the recovery,
too...that's what I'm praying for)?

Mike

First off, damn that sucks, no two ways about it.

I've been there - crossing a fence in a hurry, grabbed the top of the T post
and swung over, just exactly at the same time as my buddy was *letting go*
after he went over.. Fence snapped the post back and cut thru everything in
a groovy little line from mid-palm right thru the web between ring and
middle finger - right down to the bone.

Jinkies, that hurt!

ER, stitches, hand specialist, therapy - yadda yadda... Ring finger & middle
fingers were 'profoundly numb' for 6-8 weeks, and feeling gradually came
back over the course of a year or so. As soon as I could stand it, basically
before the stitches were all out, I was trying everything I could -
stretching, playing by watching, the works... Wound up playing a LOT with
just index and pinky

Made a full recovery from that, and have pretty much always worn gloves for
damned near everything ever since!

Unfortunately, as of about two months ago, I woke up one morning with a
pinched nerve in my neck... Which is currently causing pinky/ring
finger/palm (ulnar nerve entrapment is the official diagnosis) to go numb in
varying degrees throughout the day. Started physical therapy this week, will
get thru it - it's just a thing. But in the spirit of making lemonade... I'm
playing a lot with just index & middle finger trying ummm... 'alternate
fingerings'... <grin>

Anyway, yeah, it's frustrating/painful/irritating, (and probably all the
rest of the bad dwarves that Snow White didn't like!) but hang in there
Mike, and keep us posted on your progress... And talk with your doc, but
mine told me "move everything as much as you can, as much as you can" and it
makes recovery a lot easier...

FWIW - The hardest part for me was the friggin' depression from the loss of
something profoundly important to me for such a long time... If, for
whatever reason your situation starts dragging out and it starts getting to
you, please do see a doc for some help with the whole depression/anxiety
thing - they can really do some good things these days...
