I have 2 of them ..Which reminds me, which I want to remind everyone here of that when
1) Jumping out of a boat in a parking lot ( on the trailer) after
filling the cooler with ice , beer, soda. my wedding ring ( left hand
ring finger - fret hand) got caught on a screw head at the rear of the
widshield . My feet never touched the ground !! Bungee jump & finger
is the bungee ---- ahhhhhhhhhh , I was hanging by my 1 finger. Nearly
passed out. Doc said the finger was almost PULLED OFF, not cut off.
The skin was peeled like a bannana and the tendons almost ripped from
my armpit. I needed reconstructive surgery and hand theropy for a few
months. It could barely move for months and could not close for a
year. They said I might be able to use it again but playing bass was
most likely never going to happen. Well I didn't give up, and now
play lead guitar and bass in a group.
you are working doing electrician work, always take off your wedding
ring! If you get shocked and the ring catches on a screw or something
like above, you'd be amazed at how much strength you can develop as
the electricity makes you pull your hand away! Situation very much as
above.
Another cautionary tale: I once saw a guy checking the oil in his car get his wedding ring between the dipstick and the positive battery post. The current instantly welded the ring, dipstick and battery post together so he couldn't pull away, then melted the gold ring into his finger. As the gold liquified, he was able to pull away, but most of the molten gold stayed on his finger, and burned it all the way to the bone, severely damaging the tendons. This was back in the '60s and he lost most of the mobility in that finger, permanently.
I wear my wedding ring usually, but I recall nearly tearing my ring finger off while jumping out of the back of a truck while in the service. I wear neither rings nor watches when I am working around dangerous machinery. There are dozens of ways to get hurt.
