Done! When will you be in Minneapolis?
Ed, you need to know... I PLAYED through double-15" cabs for years. I
think they sound like ass now that I know better! LOL... Lots of
people like them... and that's cool, but I don't. Beamy as all get out
above 800 hz, etc., etc. My 12" drivers sound great to my ears... and
with the 2400 watts I'm pushing them with, yowza! Tons of good clean
power at my disposal to push 1200 watts of power handling.
Which Gauss drivers? Gauss made some NICE stuff... it was always too
bad how freaking expensive it was to recone, and how fragile they were
when you moved them. Give me JBL or Mcauley any day, thanks!
Besides, isn't the HiWatt in your GUITAR rig? Your bass rig is
pictured here:
http://www.geocities.com/edshamble/bass_rig.jpg
And thank you, but NO, I'm not carrying a fricking DOUBLE SCOOP around
for my bass rig!
Now ,, I don't suggest moving it much... ed s. ( old school)
And there's the trump, fella! My cab can be carried in my left hand,
without wheels. I win. :-)
I'm not some punk kid, Ed. I just turned 40, and I've been playing/
working professionally for over 25 years. I've played through just
about any bass rig you care to describe. The biggest you ask? (Ok, you
didn't, but I wanna brag, so...)
Four JBL 2240 18" subs
Four JBL E120 12" mids
Four JBL 1" Horns (don't recall the model #)
Triamped, Stereo.
Subs: Crest 8001
Mids: Crest 8001
Highs: Crest 4001
Thankfully, it was outdoors. 8' tall, 4' wide, 30" deep. The backline
company blew up two 8x10" Ampeg cabs and the two SVT heads they'd
brought up for the festival... not sure how, but we just pulled two of
our "full range boxes" off the truck, stacked 'em up, and used a
proprietary Cranesong compressor prototype to drive it. Really fun to
have that much thunder at your fingertips.
Cripes, did I really just turn 40? Yikes.
Ed, where the hell in MN are you located? We can probably DO this
comparison! LOL
Corey
No that was my old bass rig before I had the Hiwatt, and I still just
happen to have it so.... My new bass player had his 4x10 so we just
threw it on the pile. Horn is no longer functional...and we dont use
the JBL anymore either it was just sort of a joke ( looks like a
monster !!).
Yeah its not something you would want to move be be sure - Hiwatt is
deadly heavy also.. 15's are Gauss 5840's..
I don't run all that suff for guitar in reallity either ( usuall just
2x12 - or outside 6x12 , maybe all of it there some strong dudes to
move it.. )--- anyways
my point was I like 15's for bass -- I'm in Stillwater if your
interested... ED
Done! What're you doing Monday night? I'll bring my rig out and we'll
park 'em side by side! Unless you have steps to your basement, at
which point, you bring your stuff to my place! LOL
I'm in South Minneapolis. I'll give you a tour of the studio when
we're done deafening the neighborhood!
Corey
