Setting up for the gig tonight, drummer is sitting behind the kit,
installing cymbals, adjusting traps etc.. A punter comes up & asks him -
"So, are you playing the drums tonight?"
i looked at him, he looked at me, we both nearly died laughing...
the answer? "no, i've got my harpsichord in the van.."
this shit never gets old...
Heh. Yeah that does fall into dumb question category, but though that
answer may be satisfying, it's bad business.
Most times when that exchange happens, the punter is likely to back to
his buddies... and instead of saying "hey, those guys were pretty
cool--let's stay here all night" or "yeah, let's get on th emailing
list or buy a CD" the guy likely went back to report what a jaggoff
the drummer and bassist were to him. Unless of course the drummer was
able to pull it off in a way that didn't leave the punter feeling like
an idiot. THAT would be golden.
Someone coming up to talk to the band is usually flattery in some way,
and the people doing it are taking a chance to try to strike up a
conversation with someone they share an interest with. But that's
just me, maybe.
Best Regards,
