Hey all
Got my first ever gig coming up this friday. 5 Peice Heavy Metal band,
2 covers and 3 originals. As if my nerves weren't already tingling,
first song we're doing is "For whom the bell tolls" by Metallica,
which has a lovely intro....of a high chromatic scale on the bass.
Eeeep.
Any tips? I mean everything, from Gear to carry, to combating nerves,
is appreciated.
Cheers!
Yes! There's a difference between the concepts of being nervous and
being excited. Both have the same physical characteristics: increased
adrenalin levels, sharpened senses, etc., etc. The way in which
they're different is this: Nervousness is negative, excitement is
positive. NEVER think of yourself as being nervous, only as being
excited. It's very subliminal and subtle, but also very effective.
Make a conscious effort to descern between the two, think in terms of
the latter, and it's half the battle.
Of course, the other thing is preparation. Do your homework, know the
material, and when you step on stage, just enjoy yourself. It's
exciting.
Oh yeah, one other thing. No one is perfect. If you make a mistake,
leave it be, move on, don't beat yourself up. Everyone makes mistakes.
Good luck.
Cheers BW. I'm ready musically (our singer on the other hand..... *eye
roll*) but your right, i need to channel my Nerves into excitement.
I'm playing on a freakin stage!
Cheers!
