Strung the bass up, gave a bit of hammering, checked and reset the
intonation (they were slightly different gauges to the originals) then later
that evening, went to band rehearsal.
About an hour into the practise, I knew something was not quite right -
chords just didn`t seem to fit with the singing or the rest of the band.
Checked on the tuner - now here`s the weird bit - intonation wrong - sharp
at the 12th fret (OK, move the saddle back) but flat at the 7th (OK, move
the saddle forward :-)
Oddly enough, it only seemed to happen on the A & D - perhaps because they
get used the most.
WHY? (OK, you get what you pay for)
Now, I`m reduced to cleaning and putting back the old strings (good job I
didn`t bin them) as I haven`t any new ones in stock, we`ve a gig tonight and
the local shop only sells Rotosound :-(
Moral of the tale - Always keep at least one set of new strings in stock.
