Any iPod experts here? I don't own one, but a friend has asked me to
assist her with loading music onto a new Nano she just bought. I
consulted my son, who described a scenario I don't like, but may be
true:
1) Load music from computer #1 onto ipod
2) Later, load music from computer #2 onto ipod.
3) iTunes on computer #2 will "know" that music from computer #1
does not exist on #2, and update the ipod by erasing music.
He said kids on his dorm floor could only share music (downloaded,
or ripped from CDs) by transferring files between computer first,
using a thumbdrive or external hard disk.
Comments? Is there a way to add music to the ipod from two different
computers? Both have iTunes installed.
Apple does have tech support - you could ask them directly. E.g.,
when my oldest son got an iPhone, he gave his iPod to his younger
brother, and we called Apple to ask about the legality of the two of
them sharing the same iTunes account. The Apple folk were perfectly
fine with it; I was frankly surprised and thought they were going to
tell me we had to purchase everything twice if both kids wanted it on
their iPod/iPhone. I thought that was pretty generous of them.
The reason I suggest calling Apple is that, at least for me, I sleep
better knowing I've done things like this "by the book." My kids
know that Limewire and similar isn't allowed on any device in our
house, and we take a big stand, including publicly to their friends
if need be, about how musicians deserve to get paid for their music
if they elect to sell it. I still get students in my college classes
asking me if they can borrow my CD's to rip them to their portable
music players; I answer no, and I explain why.
Just my opinion, YMMV and all that.

What he said. Apple offers free phone support within the first 90
days...
We've called support _long_ after 90 days and not had to pay, if I
remember correctly.
