Obviously the former. Why would a poor illegal be willing to work for
$7 per hour but not $12? It makes no sense that they would only come
if there were lower wages.

But they wouldn't come if there were no demand.  If the wages were
higher, the jobs would be more likely to be filled by citizens, thus no
demand.

Talking about market forces obscures the issue. It's not legal for
them to be here. They're causing trouble, and they shouldn't even be
here. Obviously, the solution is to get rid of them. Everything you're
saying is just justifying injustice.

My brother and three sisters are very much blue collar and in the
trenches.

Go talk to them. Ask if their supervisor has mentioned how much
cheaper a Mexican would be lately. It's become a common refrain.

I mean, *think* about it. What's more likely? That poor people with
little opportunity would come to a rich country and try to hustle
work?

It's a matter of historical fact what happened. Your "c'mon, it
couldn't possibly be right-wing fat cats doing this" line is about as
original as a John McCain campaign ad. And it's just as persuasive.

Or did businesses lower wages, so American workers stopped working.

How did they GET AWAY with lowering wages? Where were the unions?

Oh, yeah....that sneaky rest of the picture getting in the way of your
theorizing.

Thus we had a bunch of unemployed people and a bunch of understaffed
businesses sitting around. After months or ever years of this, the
illegals saw a wonderful opportunity and came to this country, filled
out applications, and started new jobs.
Gimme a break. Go start a business that requires unskilled labor.
Watch what happens.

Again, half the picture. Am I checking IDs at this job fair? If I am,
guaranteed no illegals show up.
Am I paying decent? If I am, I'll have plenty of American citizens
applying, offering me the advantages of fluent English and familiarity
with American workplace rules.

OK, so why is it that 40 years ago we didn't have this problem anywhere
near the magnitude of what it is today?  What changed?

Google PATCO. Google "Reagan's war on labor." Wow, you're either
REALLY ignorant, or a GOP pusher.

Remove the opportunities, eh? So we should become like Mexico? Yeh,
that makes sense.

Why would that be the result? OH, RIGHT, because you want the illegals
to stay, and you'll say anything to justify it.

Actually, that's what's done in many cases.  If a single student has a
sufficiently rare disability and the school has no staff with expertise
in the area, it's often tough luck.

What on Earth does that have to do with illegal immigration? Once
again, the people excusing the illegals hasn't got a single cogent
point to make. He doesn't even know recent labor history, or pretends
not to. Good thing you have FUX NEWS spreading your BS for you,
because without a major propaganda machine, BS like that would go the
way of perpetual motion machines and alchemy.
