LOL, just for the record I actually have had several day jobs. I worked

then they screwed me on my last job so I walked away and never called back.
I was working the typical 8:30 to 5:00 deal on top of gigging, it was a pain
but it funded the majority of my high-end gear. Now I'm teaching and
playing and doing odd jobs here and there but nothing full time.

Well......... em.......

I'm not trying to be a jerk, Jonathan, so know that up front, ok?

I wouldn't compare working a couple of "temp" jobs to what I've done
over the past 15 years, since leaving music as my main source of
income. Over the past 15 years, I've been ground-floor on two major
business initiatives. In the first one, I helped build a business from
two owners/one employee/one office (I was the employee) to 75 offices
across five states. My next position involved being the 38th (35th?
39th? I dunno! LOL) employee in a corporate division that grew to over
500 people in 6 years. My job was to help expand the market presence
of that division in a highly competitive environment. We went from
36th in the market to 9th in just under 4 years. At one point, changes
I implemented saved our division over $2.4 million annually. I left
them over two years ago, and they're still using tools I created when
I was there.

So, my "day jobs" involved quite a bit of creativity as well, which is
part of the reason I don't mind HAVING a day job. It's challenging, I
learn something new every single day, and if I get bored, I can always
move to another company to find new challenges. Like I said... music
is my joy. It's my version of restoring old cars, wood carving,
knitting, insert favorite hobby here.

As for the wife and kids part, you can keep it man! Them girls are
nothin' but trouble, but a jazz bass is forever.

I love my wife and son, and couldn't imagine a world that didn't
include her OR my son. The fact that you're still young enough to
consider them a detriment... ah well! I'm sure you were kidding! :-)

Anyway, much respect to you for living the life you need to live. Like
I said, I've been there. It was fun, and at one point I really thought
it was all I was going to do, forever. Things changed, and I'm happier
than I've ever been... so, there you go! LOL
