I agree you can always fix the "flaws". I was just thinking in terms
of out-of-the-factory design. Like, with the Rickenbacker bridge -
that should have been redesigned years ago. And the Thunderbird
cutaway is one I'd rather live with than fix. As for the dead notes,
it does vary in severity. I had an Ibanez with a dead B and a Ric with
a dead A (these were only on fretted notes, oddly enough). The Ric was
a pawnshop prize and was worth the trouble considering the pittance I
paid for it at the time :)
I also agree about the luck of the wood. I'm a fan of a nice old slab
of mahagony, myself :)
