A few faves basslines off the top of my head:
Cameo - Candy
Bros Johnson - Stomp
Chukii Booker - Anything from his first album. A very underated player, and
one of my favorites.
Billy Cobham - Stratus
James Brown's Funky People - Anything. One of ther most sampled albums ever.
Ohio Players - Skin Tight
Rick James - Bustin out/Give it to me

My roots are in blues and classic rock. I'm in an original alternative
rock band right now. I enjoy it, but I'm finding it a bit stifling doing
just originals.
For my own enjoyment and growth I'd like to be a better funk player. I'd
like some suggestions for what you guys would consider songs that really
capture the essence of funk.
Thanks in advance.
