Best Funk Songs

My roots are in blues and classic rock. I'm in an original alternative rock band right now. I enjoy it, but I'm finding it a bit stifling doing just originals.

For my own enjoyment and growth I'd like to be a better funk player. I'd like some suggestions for what you guys would consider songs that really capture the essence of funk.
