YOu do know that all those things are relics of the far distant past,
don't
you? One of the features for many years of MS Os systems has been the
ability to recover to some previous time. That is useful primarily to get
rid of viruses or other malware. It will also fix about anything that goes
wrong.

Doing a backup in 98SE was not a simple matter, and it didn't always
work by any means.

I don't know what MS OS you're talking about. If XP is "instant
recovery", comparable to the Mac, including the desktop looking the
same when you turn it back on, hallelujah! --D-y

I find it amazing that you wouldn't know these things, you being a mac
employee - but yes that's what it does for the last few years. On the older
systems from ten or more years ago like win98 the command was sfc /scannow
to fix any problem with the OS.

I hesitate to mention this because it could easily be misconstrued but I'm
ornery that way. I was talking to the cable television people recently
about what they had to offer now since I hadn't used a cable system in more
than ten years. I was simply checking on bundles because I was considerting
using their internet service instead of dsl. The young lady informed me
that they had 24 HD channels, "More than anyone else". I pointed out that
Directv had 80 and she assured me I was mistaken even though I have used
their service for 10 years and the HD for two years. It is very poor
practice to have folks who the public assumes know these things making
blatantly false statements like this.
Once again, I in no way am implying that you would or are doing anything of
the sort. Just that it is easy to assume folks know what they are talking
about due to their position. I felt sure the cable lady believed she was
broadcasting absolute truth, but she was sadly mis informed. In your case,
I have no idea what you do at Mac, you might have absolutely zero to do with
the technical end of the business. I just mention that there is a tendency
to assume that you know all about these things simply because you have a
..mac address.

YMMV
